Abstract

|
Since 1983 we have examined hemodynamic functions in all infants with RDS receiving Surfactant-TA at the Iwate Medical University Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit by use of serial Doppler/echocardiography. In this paper we present the results of our recent homodynamic studies : (1) acute effect of instillation of surfactant into the trachea on pulmonary circulation and endexpiratory lung volume; (2) effects of the timing of sufactant therapy on hemodynamic changes; (3) effect of patent ductus arteriosus on cardiac output and organ blood flows in RDS infants treated with surfactant.
